Establishing intention to date someone and deciding a person fits your personal taste in women/men is not the same. I can look at someone and think they're my type aesthetically, but I don't decide to try and date them based upon that..
Also I don't believe that's 'common knowledge' honestly. Perhaps I am just hopeful, but I like to imagine people aren't quite as shallow as that.
Truth is all of this is why I follow you. You have a good heart, and good character. If I'm being honest I don't follow your work, I just follow you because I want to support you and what you believe in, since you always manage to show this character in all of your tweets.

This is a conversation for beyond twitter, but I'd suggest reading psychology books or anything about how Tinder dating works (which is a reflection of dating dynamics in general). Guys swipe right or message for "pretty enough" and women screen more deeply. Stats exist for this.
It's honestly just bad form for guys to admit to that as the primary reason in modern society. The wiring hasn't changed, just how society perceives it. Also guys basically "spam" many women for a response. Women then have to screen through all of that non sense. :)
