Mis/overstates # of things tho. Almost 1/2 still want to be in the office more often than not. HQs, regional offices can downsize but probably won't go away. And proximity still matters even if ppl meet coworkers in coffee shops vs offices. https://twitter.com/chris_herd/status/1359549926141792257?s=20 …

I read your points into the summary. No absolutes here, but wonder how many ppl will return to office as a habit and begin a transition. But mostly I think executives will drive remote work harder than workers perceive.

My gut sez execs and wannabe-execs will be the first ones back in the office, but other mid-levels w/families won't make the long commutes to the office regularly once the kids are back in school/daycare. Just 4 important meetings. Points re how this hurts juniors are valid.

The path to remote work will be inconsistent and imperfect. For me, having a home office is a key to success. I wonder how many homes can support this ?

An issue for businesses is tax implications around where their employees can work. A WFH misconception is people in a higher cost of living area might think they can keep their salary and move to cheaper area... don't be surprised if employer would adjust to cut costs.

Overall though I think its a good thing being able to have the WFH option. Hopefully the movement will keep moving forward.

Same. I'm a remotee for life at this point. But I also live in Silicon Valley & wouldn't change. Partly cuz it's home, but also cuz of how easy it is to meet up w/colleagues (in normal times), even if we all mostly work from home.

Early signs suggests some employers are attempting this, but employee attrition make this a problem. “Hi employee, yes, we want to work from home but here is a pay cut.” “Ok, here I will go work for someone else at better pay”
