Records also show that Mandelman's office told GrowSF they were disappointed by the addition of mandatory housing to the legislation bc it "watered down" the focus on shelters which is their best shot at addressing "street conditions" (i.e. allowing them to sweep homeless people)

They mostly seem to be recruiting all kinds of well-paid tech workers to flood the BOS with emails asking them to defend "regular" residents from crime. Wonder what they mean by "regular"?

hard to overestimate the damage caused by the infectious idea among liberals that the arc of history inevitably bends towards progress

All of this has been provided to the court through detailed public records, testimony, etc. which led to the court injunction in the first place. This motion is simply another attempt by the city to do everything it can OTHER than house people.

Notably: not only are homeless people in SF often not offered any shelter when they are swept, the shelter they are offered is usually totally inadequate for people's needs. Further, the city sets aside fewer beds each day than there are people they sweep.

The city's arguments here have been hashed out in prior hearings for this case and elswhere. The judge is familiar with it so I would be surprised if this sways her.

The city says their old policy was to only sweep people who were "voluntarily" homeless (lol) and just because the city didn't follow that old policy doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to...um...try to comply with it...

New: S.F. tapped Urban Alchemy to respond to low-level 911 calls about homelessness instead of police in a new pilot. Community groups who campaigned for the program are pushing back on the pick. Will the team, whoever runs it, have an impact?sfchronicle.com/sf/article/s-f
