    Back to this (thread) except now in vaca planning mode 🤗. I took a moment and realized that while work travel is awesome, it’s not vacation. I have been running on empty by not taking any real time off to decompress since last July. Recharges are very necessary y’all.

    The thing about burn out and stress is that you become hyper focused on the bad and (temporarily) lose your optimism and creativity. This can spiral into severe sadness and bouts of depression. And no you can’t just snap out of it.

    Unfortunately a user fell for a scam but MFA and Conditional Access saved the day. The risky login from a different geographic location triggered a Multi Factor prompt which wasn't accepted. User has now changed their password and will get some training.

    A2- for the approach to really take hold, identity needs to again sink lower in the stack - living in the app layer is incompatible with truly ubiquitous enforcement and access control as administrators understand it

    Just met the founder of , who is lovely BTW (that’s her holding the bottle ☺️), and had a taste of her fabulous whiskey and I am sold! Definitely ordering a bottle. I’m not into whiskey y’all but this stuff smells and tastes delicious!

    Everyone can have an impact on someone and help them, and in the security space you can be part of this. You don’t have to be an executive or a manager to be able to build people and drive changes. Give it a chance, try something different if you feel like it.

    If you want to stop an attacker from RDP brute forcing you and deploying ransomware as a domain admin via psexec or group policy you probably want to start by enabling NLA, randomizing your local passwords, and keeping domain admins from logging in to desktops.

    Happy Thursday, my dears and my darlings. Earlier this week I vaguely mentioned a scary thing that happened while on a Lyft ride. I have reported it, and all these days (and multiple messages) later, has not reached out. So I am going to tell my story here. Right now.

    Or even better. Add those service accounts to PIM and make them break glass so that pwds cycle after every check-in.

    Cycle your service account passwords because I lived in Ops for 10 years I know all the shit I did with service accounts and it’s all in an OST/PST file somewhere still probably. An attacker can parse every PST on a file share with this little tool.

    Empathy is an understanding of how someone feels. Often we project how *we* would feel in the situation, without any idea how they actually feel. Implying how someone feels isn’t empathy. Don’t lead with empathy. Lead with inquiry and then be empathetic from an informed place.
