And I get that thinking the reliable way is somehow costly, but SO IS not thinking the reliable way! I’ve tried to debug this thing in me, and afaict it’s tied up with pretty deep stuff, but I think there’s a leverage point here.

The grinding was related, in my mind, to the treasure-related completionism. Because if my party was overpowered for the upcoming dungeon, I could afford to search it thoroughly.

I get mildly disturbed when I imagine using something more like lazy loading and backchaning to do an adventure game, but I think I am nonetheless going to move in that direction.

Okay, so I stuck to the new plan. Slow going. I was really fed up with not being able to get the joke page, so I imagined really hard that that the hint system told me I had everything I needed. I had the answer within a minute. Way better than actually calling the hint line.

When I got stuck with this game it was mostly because: 1. I failed to read the literal writing on the wall 2. I forgot about the push and pull verbs 3. Something that wasn’t even supposed to be a puzzle

If this is just some bug where that location would be clickable except that I’m on mobile, it’ll be like that time I got to the very end of Chronotrigger in an emulator and then I had to press buttons “at the same time”, and the emulator just couldn’t. Sigh.

I sometimes whitelist this as an acceptable strategy if I want the progress to be deployed at a convenient time, eg for healing purposes or momentum reasons. Seems silly but for now I don’t have a great alternative
