  16. 4. Saying the wrong thing can be scary, we are prone to make mistakes. Without making mistakes we never find out the best terms to use. As long as you are understanding, listen to different people around you and alter your language in future then you are making a positive change.

  17. 3. You may be surprised how often this term is still used, you should refrain from using your friend/family/ colleague as your defence mechanism, they are not your token out of an argument.

  18. 2. ‘I don’t see colour’ closes further discussion or debate as you are dismissing the issue. You are also ignoring the diversity around you which can be offensive to some.

  19. Why scrap these phrases? 1. You don’t know what that person has been through, being a victim of racism is a traumatic experience for a lot of people. We cannot assume or undermine this by telling someone that it’s better.
