Different view from TTTech (not on Twitter) that factory edge is basically next to each machine, but interconnected #ecforum Again a mention to OPC UA over TSN which is becoming a theme herepic.twitter.com/R3IIKOLUqw

Typical plant might generate 1-2TB per day. A lot of it is “trash data” that can be filtered by #EdgeComputing Interesting that even @Huawei seems more on-prem edge focused rather than telco-edge. Also ref’d private 5G References its AI-capable chipsets for “smart filtering”pic.twitter.com/4LmCoUcuzR

Ah-hah. This is @HuaweiEnt presenting, not @Huawei carrier division. Its Smart Manufacturing solution seems much less religious about 5G vs WiFi6 than some other vendors (I’m curious to know whether this refocus reflects the geopolitical fears about Huawei 5G)

Another @HuaweiEnt presentation at #ecforum There’s a mention of telco edge-cloud & MEC on one slide, but neither MEC nor #5G is central to the vision here Plenty of references to fixed IIoT connections - and again to OPC-UApic.twitter.com/2bOdimUrHJ

One of the things I’ve been asking to the TSN people is “in 5 years, which of these wired connections will be replaced with 5G or other wireless?” General answer seems to be about things that move around (eg AGVs) or *perhaps* some portable equipment. But wires more reliablepic.twitter.com/29IYorRSaF

So for @Fujitsu_Global the purpose of #EdgeComputing in #IIoT is about on-premise protocol conversion, local intelligence & bandwidth reduction Another angle is to reduce risk of “moving targets” from cloud’s rapid innovation cycles & inconstancypic.twitter.com/dhO02tjc8c

Now up @ericsson at #ecforum Quite a nuanced view of "where is the edge?" - could be on-prem, at access sites, local/regional & national Good point - the smarter the device, the wider the range of apps/services on a single device, needing multiple edges

Some really interesting ideas for #edgecloud #EdgeComputing topologies from @Ericsson The issue is that it’s still very telco / MNO centric, assuming a #5G core, when #5G will be a small % of total endpoints Also unclear how multi-operator scenarios would workpic.twitter.com/Xp8Hor5mpv
