Sometimes it's easy to get lost in tweaking techincal mix stuff & you forget to think 'How does this FEEL? Does it FEEL good on your ears?' Cos at the end of the day that's the most important thing. A good song, well performed, will often transcend an average quality mix

That's not to say having a good mix isn't important... I spend hundreds of hours on it. But the technical side can sometimes compromise the overall emotional feel of the song. I find this with a lot of modern metal for example, with it's super clicky kick drums & snappy snares

I've often used the Beatles as an example for this. Their albums are chock full of small errors, but they're still fantastic, and still illicit a huge emotional response.
