    Web 1.0 was - ideologically - the most healthy model for the internet we have ever seen, as it was decentralized and far less constrained by the jaws of capitalism. Web 1.0 was a glimpse into a sustainable, communal, anarchist internet that was promptly crushed by capitalism.

    The reason I have so much passion for is largely because of the model it demonstrates: a foundational internet technology that is not controlled or influenced by any single individual or entity. This is what the internet wants to be, and over time, more of it will be.

    When I read about Italy under Berlusconi I started to clearly see two things: First, how this Trump saga would play out (horrid, lots of noise, no consequences, wake of destruction), and second, why my Italian friends just roll their eyes at his nonsense (they know how it ends).

    This is what gets me - it's the shame that gets heaped on poor families. You don't have to just struggle, you also have to believe that you deserve this, you brought it upon yourself. Next time try being less poor.

    Look at the pictures in that thread and tell me that this is what you would buy with £30, or that two clingfilmed pieces of ham and some biscuits would feed a child for a week. Wartime rations were more nutritionally complete and certainly more humane.

    This honestly chills me to the bone. I keep thinking about parents having to accept that they need help, and being given this. The message is that poor people don't deserve to eat, let alone eat with dignity.

    Welcome to Britain 2021, where £30 that the govt used to give out as food vouchers is now being given to private companies who distribute about £10 worth of food to needy families. These companies have access to huge bulk discounts. Imagine what they COULD be doing with £30.

    I’m getting individual permission from everyone sending me pics of their food boxes in my DMs to repost them here but without identifying information because I try to be responsible with this large platform and there are ~children~ involved here. Disclaimer done, now get angry.

    To write off the South is also to ignore that the dogged and relentless organisation and action in GA - led by women of colour - DELIVERED THE GODDAMN SENATE last week. It makes all this bullshit even more egregious, because it's distracting from that incredible achievement.

    When people say "Whoa, you lived in Georgia? Wasn't it all GOP craziness?" There was some, but I learned that the south also has *A LOT* of this, and to dismiss the whole place does not support the progressive Southern voices in getting the traction & legitimacy they deserve.
