The use of slave ports is hella weird ("hella weird" being the proper term of art, of course). It's one of several reasons why this paper feels like it's trying too hard.

But what concerns me is the narrow focus on land-use devoid of context - e.g. how whiteness was embedded in structures and the costs to non-whites of efforts to support, uphold, and reinforce whiteness...

Good question. To the extent that I can, I do it by trying to follow a diverse set of people on Twitter. I’ve also set up a robust system of RSS feed. And since I tweet out papers and write about housing, people now send them to me. I wish I could write more stories on papers
