Doesn't look like this is going to make this week's newsletter, but ** in which a scientist who has raised questions about the validity of claims that Qi can treat cancer is now being threatened with a lawsuit. There's no legal standing for such a suit, IMO.

Breaking news: Just got another legal threat, now for my criticism of the "External Qi" papers. In those papers, a Qigong Master claims to treat cancer cells with his force. The lawyer representing the authors demands me to take down my Pubpeer postings. (small thread)

I'm always looking for smart podcasts with a rich loamy mix of intellectualism, good writing, and decent production quality. A delightful woman, Dee McCurry, put together a list of the top 10 academic podcasts.

Today we achieved the dream. Made a function called `missyElliott` that takes a data structure, flips it, and reverses it. I have ascended.

Question we are all asking: What is everyone doing about family members who refuse to get vaccinated? Are they unwelcome at family events until they're fully vaxxed? Are you working with a threshold number (e.g. 1 unvaxxed person is a risk we're will take, but 5 is too many?)

This year I decided I would be more grant productive. Did I write more grants? Why yes, I wrote 3 grants. And were these grants get funded? No. But do they count toward tenure? Also no. But did they also help me think more about how to get funding in the future? Also no.

Some sad personal news- After 17 years I was informed today that my tenured position at my university was being terminated by mid-May. Not sure what is next, but if anyone needs a slightly used Political Scientist I am now very available.

Night 2 of curfew. These curfews will: + lead to arrests of mostly black and brown people for protesting the shooting of an unarmed black man, + deliver overtime pay to the mostly white cops in the metro area, + justify having called up the national guard.
