First cut at an extension for reading @Pocket from the URL bar.https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/string-or-nothing/ …
Sadly, the “omnibox” API in WebExtensions guarantees a pretty terrible user experience: Limited to 6 results (5 really), can’t specify a favicon, requires a keyword to activate.

I’ll probably convert the extension to sync all your
@Pocket articles as bookmarks tagged “pocket”. It solves all the problems of the omnibox api: * See proper favicons * See all results, not just 5 * Integrated in other browser UI and features (eg sync)Show this thread -
This is step #1 in experimenting with ways to make it easier to read my
@Pocket articles. Got a few others lined up...Show this thread

I've no idea why that was done...well, I can imagine why the result limit, but icons?
-
Looks like Chrome supports using the extension’s default favicon for the icon in the results, so that seems like an easy decision. Still not good enough to build a decent experience around. Need the entire result set, need to be action-word-less, need per-result icons, etc.

I think if you want to prototype futuristic awesomebar-ish behavior, you basically want to create your own newtab page that grabs focus. And then you want to expose an API to other webexts like Tree Style Tab does so I can use it. Thanks in advance! ;)

First we’d have to fix the newtab page apis too. Last I tried, they are also hobbled in ways that guarantee a poor user experience - primarily the limitation that they’re not kept loaded in background and the frame swapped in as needed.
