What does a faster
@firefox help me if most of my addons will no longer work starting version 57?1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
I'm sure you'll be able to find equivalents if the one you use become unsupported

It's not just one addon and so far there is no sign of Webextension equivalents. Speed Dials, Mouse Gestures, things like that.

I would suggest to contact the addon autors first and ask their plans. Some of them are probably working on this.

Where does the optimism that most authors will rewrite their addons from scratch come from? It's quite some effort. I'm very skeptical.

It's hard work, I'm migrating my addons now. But you know what I'm skeptical about? A future for Firefox *without* WebExtensions.

I'm not saying Firefox should drop WebExtensions. It just shouldn't drop all addons which are not WebExtensions.

I know too much about that architecture. That way lies madness. There's no future there. Not secure, and super slow. Giant footgun.

If I lose my Speed Dial & Mouse Gesture addons, I'm better off switching to Vivaldi which at least provides basic functionality of that.

Yeah, that might be a better choice for now if you cannot survive without them. At least until they're migrated to WebExtension.
