If browsers use default proxies hosted by some big companies over HTTPS, your ISPs will know even less than DNS over HTTPS. Isn't it a great idea?

but the vast majority of users don't even know what DNS is. So if you set them to a likely better default than the one they don't know about (their ISP), it's a win in my book.

I agree. But it seemed way harder than it needed to be. Rotate between resolvers, or anything like that seems like it would have quelled at least some of the criticism.
