... Maybe we should just go back to a static /etc/hosts for the whole Internet. We can publish it with Bittorrent magnet links. That would make more sense than this.
that's a thing and it's called IPFS. It has an ICO token of course.
Thus continuing to prove my theory that if there's a stupid idea, someone has built a crypto implementation of it
rule 21 million: there is no joke you can make about crypto that doesn't exist
IPFS doesn't have a blockchain or a token. https://ipfs.io
Many blockchain projects are finding IPFS's content-addressing very useful, so that bit gets confused a lot
filecoin, and stop dissembling
Yikes, sorry - didn't realize this was controversial! I started working on IPFS recently and just saw your comment go by in my Twitter search :)
ok sorry for snapping :-) but yeah, filecoin was HUGE, was specifically to fund IPFS and ... it's not clear what happened to any of the money or what's being achieved IPFS as "bitttorrent the file system" is interesting but I'm not sure it's *very* useful ... has uses tho
No worries! Yeah I don't work on Filecoin, I joined IPFS from Mozilla because I'm interested in seeing browsers become full nodes in distributed networks. I'm very interested in that latter bit (swarm-served files) for direct and unmediated human communication.
