There are just under 500,000 registered motor vehicles (including 55,000 trucks) in SF. The SFMTA just capped cheap, emission-free, shared electric scooters at... 1,250.

Assuming you’re right, it’s ironic that in a town full of great execution teams we haven’t figured out a way for them to meaningfully contribute to our civic projects. Perhaps something to explore there...
-
Jesus. I agree with you all on scooters v cars, but could the tone in this thread be any more condescending? (BTW, half the reason the scooters ignited such a firestorm is because of this tone.)
-
It's not a problem of "execution teams." City gov is responding to large numbers of people who see the scooters as *symbolic* of tech showing disregard for democratic process.
-
Not trying to be condescending. I’m genuinely curious. I have no personal experience to support dick’s comment other than not understanding why many decisions seem to be made. I’d think we’d want more accessibility along with reducing housing costs so it’s easier to live here.
-
Fair enough and sorry for my overly vehement reaction.

I've been frustrated with citizens -- and it is citizens, I think the SFMTA is just responding -- acting like scooters are worse than cars. I love the scooters! But I'm also realizing that people view this as "another uber running over public space."
-
Long story short, I view decisions being made as a product of competing agendas among citizens. In this case, I think the scooter companies' approach -- which was to kind of just put litter on sidewalks, from one point of view -- ignited an unfortunate backlash.
