I think it's pretty clear that they aren't in a position to replace Gal Gadot, since she just carried DC's best ever movie and made everyone historic $$$. She's exercising her negative leverage to take a public stand, which sends a clear message to studios.

I think she's probably doing it to fully exercise her power past this one deal. If asking nicely worked, or if men did this voluntarily, we wouldn't have this issue in the first place.
