We need to stop talking about our #railways as if they are a business. They aren't. Guess what, highways don't make profit so why is it ok to funnel £billions into building new roads?!

Transport Secretary @Mark_J_Harper says operating the railway is financially unsustainable due to lower revenue and rising costs and it isn't fair to continue asking taxpayers to foot the bill #GBA23

Ukrainian soldiers near the Belarusian border say that the high number of beaver dams, which locals haven’t cleared because of the war, have helped flood the Volyn swamps- making the area much easier to defend

A design classic, but ever since its creation in 1965 the British Rail 'Double Arrow' has been prime for misuse, accidental or otherwise. Now it's been reworked fit the needs of our modern, digital world. Beautiful work by for Network Rail 👏

"Do you not see there's a problem?" "There's an algorithm here tracking a human worker." Labour MP Darren Jones absolutely slates Amazon's European head of public policy over their dystopian surveillance of workers.

Just finished writing this talk, and I'm very excited to give it. 1st time I've explained my research - a huge study involving 84 scientists - which was at the core of the predictions of sea level rise. This will be an insider view on how this BIG science works. 🌏💻📉📈

Remembrance day fun fact. During the blitz over 450 conscientious objectors volunteered for bomb disposal duty.
‘Bomb Disposal: Lashing a Bomb Before Hauling it to the Surface’. It was painted by Norman Basil Town, a Conscientious Objector who volunteered and served in bomb disposal in Kent

The thing that gets me about this is that this senior policeman thinks that the 'problem' is JSO getting their message out. But their message isn't a problem. The blocked M25 is the problem. Their message is actually a solution ...to a diferent, bigger problem.

Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd now turns his fire on @LBC. "Your editorial policy needs to reflect on whether or not we want to be part of the problem, which is how Just Stop Oil manage to get their message out there so very successfully."

The arrest of journalists this week was not just about a few inexperienced officers getting carried away. Remarks like this indicate a wider culture, that treats those who report on protest as accessories to crime.

Yesterday I was arrested by @HertsPolice whilst covering a protest on the M25. I showed my press card, and I was handcuffed almost immediately. My phone was snatched out of my hand. I was searched twice, held in a cell for 5 hours, and I wasn’t questioned whilst in custody.

This clip is so revealing. You can become a Cabinet Minister and be very successful in British politics without thinking in an serious way about the biggest global and economic challenge we face. The blind spot is going to get us all killed.

This is the Secretary of State for the Environment and despite being a ranty and no doubt often boring polemicist, I am actually lost for words.

Really interesting and well evidenced thread on whether the Just Stop Oil activists who threw soup at Van Gogh’s Sunflowers scored an own goal. Challenges lots of people’s preconceptions (including mine) - lots to think about here

I find it a bit weird that otherwise very rational/reasonable people make totally unsubstantiated claims that go against existing empirical evidence when they see disruptive protest twitter.com/Liv_Boeree/sta…

I'm seeing people asking, 'Why aren't protesting at oil companies instead of at the *National Gallery*?', which is a reasonable question, but: a) they have been b) they've been thrown in prison for it c) if you hadn't heard about that, there's the answer to your Q.

Gwen, risking an unlimited fine and a 2 year prison sentence for holding a placard on the grass verge outside the Kinsgbury terminal. #JustStopOil

The thing that bothers me most about the chancellor resigning is that atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases are at their highest point in human history unleashing an era of ever worsening climatic and humanitarian crises.
