Hi Diccon, just to clear: the current arrangements for travel in Schengen will continue after 31 Jan and through the end of the transition period (end-December 2020). No changes!

Thanks. Maybe we should tell Zurich Kantonspolizei that so they know what to do at the airport! The people I spoke to today had no idea.

Awesome... I do miss passport stamps.
-
Then I hope you enjoy queuing for them. I certainly love the two hours I spend in immigration every trip to the US

Visas are digitally uploaded remotely to chips now anyway, so unlikely you'd be stamped if that's what you don't want. And I read somewhere you won't need one for holidays and shorter term visits anyway.

I am a resident in Switzerland so won’t need a visa. But I will no longer be an EU citizen from the end of 2020 so most likely won’t be able to go through the automatic gates. I may have to queue and prove my residency every single time.

You do know that Switzerland is also not in the EU.
-
You do know that non-EU Switzerland has free movement of people with the EU

Let us know what happens! Hopefully by my next trip in a few weeks everyone will be well informed...

Will do. It should all be fine as the transition period means no changes. But whether the border guards know that is a different matter.
