A stack proponent has advised me, "to maybe not be so confrontational with saying stack does not work." I love this juicy world, and all the comedy enveloped within it.

Why is it funny that someone is asking you to stop ridiculing a tool that some people derive utility from? Do you think I am an idiot because I use stack?

Ridiculing a tool is a critical requirement to progress. That's not the funny bit. No, I don't think that.

1) ridiculing a thing as an strategy for improving that thing is a strategy, I wouldn't say it's "critical" to that thing getting better... But it is a valid strategy I'll give you that

2) But the original point was about ridiculing the creators and users of the thing.. which I don't believe to be either "nice" (which you may or may not care about) or effective in achieving your stated goals

Seems like a terrible insult to invoke comparisons with Java :) but that aside... We are talking build systems here how is my previous suggestion "promote better alternatives" not an equally likely to succeed strategy?

Build tools that work have been discussed and "promoted" hundreds of times. This [stack, cabal, nix, sbt, whatever] garbage is not in the arena of honest discourse.
