Regardless of what you think of stack, it has its place. I'd never have learned Haskell if stack hadn't made getting started simple.

example: "brew install stack && stack setup && stack install" works on various mac machines I used it on to install my packages. is there anything nearly as easy as this?

nice stack feature: lets me fork specific broken packages from hackage and specify the git repo as my dependency, freeing me from terrible maintainers who refuse trivial fixes. one perpetually said "I'll rewrite it all in a week" and in the mean time all dependants were broken
