People want to use stack because it solves real problems for them. I don't see why this is incomprehensible. There are many tools that I don't use personally, while understanding why others do like then.

I want to fiddle with build tools for approximately 0 time ideally and I'm happy to accept compromises on other fronts for that. Stack is great for this. If I had other priorities I'd use other tools.

exactly but Stack is awful at this, so I move on. I also don't tell newbies to use PHP. Wanna try to talk me into that to??? I don't get it.

I have had a dramatically different experience than you to come to such differing conclusions. I don't know why, but I want you to understand that there are a lot of people with experiences similar to mine, and writing all of those people off is bizarre.

Sure, you're welcome to have whatever opinion you want. I'm happy to have a diversity of tooling that satisfies different needs. But it's another thing entirely to say that something has 0 merit at all. Even php has produced a lot of value in this world, awful of a tool it may be

tools not existing can produce more value. Do you similarly defend homeopathy?

stack isn't net negative. It's useful for me personally, saving me of time and energy for working with haskell. Every haskell company I've worked for and everyone I've taught has used it with great success. We clearly have different experiences here. Mine are as valid as yours

I've read this entire thread, and I'm still on the stack side - and so far we haven't gotten from contradiction to counter-argument yet: http://bigthink.com/paul-ratner/how-to-disagree-well-7-of-the-best-and-worst-ways-to-argue …

My goal here is to make a slightly better argument than that in favour of stack. I refuse to do better than that. I have achieved that goal.
