What programming methods [language] was the self-driving Uber written with? Did that software "work well enough"?

The NTSB report will tell us in good time I’m sure. I think the more interesting questions here have to do with Arizona’s regulatory approach.
Do the Arizona regulations say something like, the software is OK as long as "the programmer did some monkey patching, then wrote some tests and declared that it works most of the time"? Because I would definitely believe that if it were true.

I struggle to believe that legislation is going to have any useful outcome on software quality. Certainly, it has a detrimental effect in aviation in many diverse contexts.
