I would really like there to be zero, or even just small, practical penalty on me, and students, for the existence of stack. Consistent failure to acknowledge the cause of this ongoing penalty, is quite frustrating. it is *so* predictably consistent. Hence, fuck stack.

What's the likelihood of getting a (possibly more efficient) incremental build directly in Cabal for something like Stack's "--file-watch"?

I'm not saying much about one tool being better than another. I'm asking about one specific feature that is useful that Cabal doesn't have without coupling with an inotify-app, which likely has overhead.
