Want to hear some serious nerd bullshit? Monads, the hardest concept in all of computer science for anyone to understand are just the things between pipes monad | monad | monad | monad | no --really "But they're pipes with types!" "Oh, that's always a mess." "I KNOW!!!"

Most people who use the term monad aren't trying to be understood, they're just trying to sound smarter than their audience.

It's really not that at all, not even a little bit. Please give us the benefit of the doubt - we're usually using the term *in the presence of people who understand it.* It's the same as with any other jargon; if I start talking about DAGs you'd probably be fine with it, right?

I am one of "us" and have spent my life working among "us", so I feel qualified to say that we don't deserve the benefit of any doubt on this ;)

You are speaking for yourself, and perhaps a very small number of others, and definitely not those who have obtained a comprehensive understanding of the topic, including its practical application.

There was no condescension inside that matter of fact. This fact remains a fact, regardless of any ageism to deflect from the matter of fact. There exist many people who a) understand the subject b) utilise that subject for practical application.
