We are very unhappy about the lack of gender diversity at the conference. We did try really hard to fix it, but failed. We announced it during the opening that we are very disappointed about this and will take corrective actions in future to fix this.

I would have canceled a conference I run before I let it run like that.

The damage you did to the community is far greater than not having the conf at all.

My first programming experience (which convinced me to pursue it as a career) was numerical methods in fortran. I get the appeal of math.

But I’ve realized since that while math is one lens you can view programming through, if it’s the only one you use, it’s quite limiting.
