Well, uh. :-) No, but seriously. How bad does it get?

My impression (as a Haskeller) was that Scala had a lot of common ground, but the syntax had a lot of Java gunk on it.

A naive first impression, that many of us once fell for.

I do remember watching a LC'16 30 min session on the *herculean* efforts taken to take Scala to... almost Haskell Prelude.

I emphasize "almost". There were still some deficiencies that you'd really feel in anything past "Hello, World" projects.

yep, unbelievably massive effort for something still not quite right, every time.

I mean. Tech debt is a thing. Run Prelude.head [] But you all seem to be talking about this on a systemic level.
