I have noticed a recent trend of people advising against the use of a motorcycle rear brake in the event of an emergency stop.

@dibblego Is that a bad idea? I barely touch my rear brakes...

@mwotton Yes, it is a bad idea to not use rear brakes at all. I am tempted to prove it on every kind of tyre that exists.

@mwotton A longer stopping distance for no other apparent advantage. Those provided in counter-point so far are ridiculous.

@dibblego I guess as you stop harder they become less effective, but presumably still better than nothing unless the back wheel comes up.

@mwotton That's the thing; if the back wheel comes up, on the street, you are doing it wrong.

@dibblego you have to have your weight a fair way forward to do it deliberately, right?
