      @ssanj Bzzt, Either is a monad in Scala. Either[T, _] specifically. It's just not implemented.

      @dibblego bind/flatMap is part of the Monad contract. Either does not have flatMap in Scala. You need to use the left and right projections.

      @ssanj Imagine all the code in the world disappeared. Integer is (still) naturally ordered. Either[T, _] is a monad. Neither are implemented

      @ssanj Integer satisfies the contract of natural ordering, even if the entire Earth exploded and we were alone all along.

      @ssanj "X is a monad" is answerable by inspection of the structure of X, not searching for a witness to the fact.

          @dibblego @ssanj I find it preferable to say "X *has* a monad":, it is possible to correctly implement the monad for type constructor X.

          With typeclasses think "there is a" rather than "is a" that we get from OOP: "Promise is a Monad" versus "There is a Monad for Promise".
