      @hg_ Variance does not change the issue. The issue is in the language spec 6.26.1. Was wondering if it has been fixed yet (Scala=Ruby?)

          @hg_ I think it is reasonably expected that this code fails the type-checker. Unfortunately, this behaviour is coded into the language spec.
