The next time you call someone "toxic" or a "troll", reflect on how casually you did so, with absolute social acceptance, encouragement and impunity. That's what it was like to call someone a faggot or homo (pejoratively) in the 1980s. History repeats.
I agree on first. I see "troll" as just a socially acceptable form of name-calling and abuse. Like "faggot" in the 1980s.

I think we're close to agreement on this, though I'd argue the problem with "troll" is closer to that of "fake news". Both have an original meaning, but ended up used to mean "I don't like what you're saying". As a result, both terms have been diluted and became nearly useless

I think it's much more sinister than "I don't like what you are saying." Imagine if gay people only had to endure, "I don't like what you do in your bedroom."
