Really, in the end, static vs dynamic type systems is about mindest, and how you approach developing software. Both have upsides and downsides. This is why you see lots of systems that aren't purely one or the other!

How would you even know you didn't?
Because I can write programs using a static type system that would not be tractable to produce otherwise (and I suspect is why I never see them). The map is the territory.
