Really, in the end, static vs dynamic type systems is about mindest, and how you approach developing software. Both have upsides and downsides. This is why you see lots of systems that aren't purely one or the other!

But this doesn't happen with well designed static type systems. I've been writing Haskell for 15 years. Not once did it happen. Might you be referring to "not-really" static typing?
