Particular individuals aside, this is something I’m interested in but I’m not sure what the solution is, or the exact problem even.

The problem is simply people who are unpleasant (or even abusive in some cases) to other people (particularly newbs). Potential users then decide not to adopt a technology because these people are using it.

Where is this a problem? On FP slack or IRC or somewhere else?

This is not about one medium, it's about people with a history of being unpleasant on the internet in general. In the case I mentioned, I mostly noticed them misbehaving on twitter and irc

I agree there’s a potential issue here, but these people simply existing on the internet can’t be reason enough to abandon technology surely

The solution is /ignore on both sides. Hope you're doing well.
