CoC makes it clear what the expected behavior is, and makes it less personal and less subjective when the “banhammer” is used.

What could go wrong? :) A Scala programmer recently abused someone on a forum that they thought was me. I thought that was funny/tragic :)

It at least makes it easier to evaluate the behavior of members of the community, since there is a set of guidelines to evaluate against. Of course it should only be used if disputes can’t be resolved more amicably

But it really really really doesn't. The people who violate the CoC the most, are almost always the same people who wrote it. It's similar to some people who need a religious book to tell them not to kill people, but then they do it anyway.
