Okay, so this seems to be at least part of what he was saying. It appears to be in response to Jesse Thorns’ viral thread about his daughter, which JS then took and decided he could armchair diagnose a child as NOT having dysphoria …based on her dad’s thread.https://twitter.com/fallenigloos/status/1377681472732160005 …

What this shows is that JS isn’t just asking questions that need to be covered. He’s genuinely skeptical that trans kids can exist, and he believes dysphoria is a necessary component of someone being trans (we’ve been fighting for years to remove medicalization from identity).

Deleted and reclarifying: a child who is supported early on in their identity does not necessarily experience *pain* as a dysphoric symptom, which appears to be what JS is using as diagnostic criteria (which is not the case: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gender-dysphoria/symptoms-causes/syc-20475255 …).

Here’s further DSM criteria: https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/gender-dysphoria/what-is-gender-dysphoria … JS seems to be hung up on the idea that dysphoria is necessarily depression and pain, and since the child in question (filtered through her dad) does not necessarily have that, JS feels he can dx the kid.

This goes far beyond asking questions. This goes way out of bounds for a JOURNALIST allegedly just interested in the questions of trans kids.

It doesn’t matter that he deleted it once he faced criticism. The fact that he thinks he, a JOURNALIST without *any* clinic training, can say a kid doesn’t have dysphoria and is an example of bad parenting/transgender trending is not only inappropriate, but morally reprehensible.

In not only entertaining those thoughts but posting them on twitter, he showed his cards. When you are accusing a parent of manipulating their kid into being trans (which is what he’s saying when he says the kid doesn’t have GD), you have no room to say you’re unbiased.

I am so angry that not only did he do this on TDOV, but that he continues to believe (through the publishing of the article I critiqued earlier) that he is somehow this objective, unbiased voice who is just wanting to bring nuance to the debate. He doesn’t, full stop.

THIS is why trans people keep telling you that JS is a bad faith actor who cannot be trusted. The fact that it not only crossed his mind but that he POSTED IT to Twitter is a problem for anyone who writes about trans issues.

I'm guessing JS does not actually have the educational or licensing required to make diagnoses, either?

That social transition/puberty blockers/hormones can reduce “pain” and put kids mental health in line with their peers is the whole point of the different ways to transition.https://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/137/3/e20153223 …

EXACTLY. Guess what, when we don’t force trans kids to go through the wrong puberty and support them in their identity, they are signficantly less likely to be in pain and depressed!!
