just thinking about how jk rowling willingly gave up signifiers of her womanhood and deliberately wrote under ambiguous or male pseudonyms in order to get ahead in publishing

particularly how she took on the robert galbraith pseudonym when she wanted to be taken seriously as a crime writer (never mind that it's the name of a man who promoted conversion therapy). apparently presenting as a different gender is a-okay if it's for capitalism

Not only that, I bet she feels it adds to her argument - women have oppression too! I’ve gone through these oppressive systems! I’m a feminist, see?

Side note: I’m a film teacher for teens, and one of my queer teens did an AMAZING movie where a racist lesbian is called out on it and screams, “I’m not racist! I’m GAY, I know oppression!"

also the fact that her being JK in the first place instead of Joanne was done intentionally bc Harry Potter was being marketed towards boys and they thought it would do better if the author wasn't obviously a woman 😐

Did that marketing work anywhere? I thought Harry Potter readers were all female (and a lot younger than me).
