The Caps won and I saw Dave Chappelle on the same day. I bleed mumbo sauce. My heart drums to the beat of “Da Butt.” Roberta Flack is my ring tone. Instead of walking I beat my feet from one destination to another. Kill moe.

When Anthony Bourdain visited the San Francisco Bay Area, he sat down with Black Panther Party founder Bobby Seale and provided viewers with an African-American history lesson. That's the kind of person he was.

Therapy shouldn't cost $180/hr for folks without insurance. And folks with insurance should be allowed to see whatever therapist works best for them -- in or out of network.

  14. There is very little room in our current system for the average person to get proactive help. Proactive in this case means: consistent therapy, outpatient treatment, and access to medication.

  15. There are not enough beds in psych wards for everyone that needs them. Our mental health system is reactive. You have to be damn near ready to commit suicide the day you ask for help or you won’t be admitted.

  16. Getting help is easier said than done. I come from a solidly upper-middle class background and literally every woman in my family except me is a nurse. My mom and grandma are psych nurses. I have good insurance. Navigating the system still nearly crushed me.

I highly recommend folks read this profile about Anthony Bourdain, which was published last year. It shows a man aware of his good fortune and his demons, and trying to appreciate the former without being consumed by the latter.
