Stigmas surrounding the TTTE franchise and fandom probably play a huge part in the latter's tunnel vision of interests, as well the barrier of entry to fan created episodes being as low as it is, and the franchise's niche premise.

Thomas fans really need to broaden their horizons and watch and listen to stuff that isn't Thomas.

Speaking of which, the term 'Ham-Ham' became a catch-all term for all hamsters in episode 20 of the English dub, where it is used to refer to Omar, a character who is not part of the main 'club'; hailing from a foreign country.
Maxwell holds up a 'Missing Ham-Ham' poster showing Omar as the missing Ham-Ham in question.

...but it's awful to be so short-sighted in regards to what's out there to enjoy. This isn't a problem unique to TTTE, but it is one of those interests which sees its followers really dedicated to it, perhaps to an unhealthy extent.

I imagine that the stigma surrounding the series I already mentioned causes some fans to become more dedicated to it, as others aren't willing to accept them for who they are. It's great if you want more fan content and play, not pause...

Regardless, the TTTE fandom is considered to be a freak show by the general public. This is true to some extent, but like any other following, the TTTE fandom DOES have normal people who are simply into the series.

The RWS and first four seasons stuck to a more grounded, realistic setting, devoid of magic or any other 'wacky' concepts. Instead, they just have trains do train things, with drivers, firemen, workmen and controllers to accompany them.

Perhaps Thomas would have always had a hard time with the public though; the concept of talking railway engines that behave and look like their real-life counterparts is not a premise that everyone can get behind.

...but other fandoms would KILL for that accessibility to creating fan episodes. There are dozens upon dozens of Thomas fan-series out there, and even more one-off fan creations. Other fandoms would also kill for that.

Get a copy of Trainz, or join ROBLOX, then grab all the models and sets you need, or hop into a Sodor game, hit record, and you'll be making a TTTE series in no time. Of course, it's not actually THAT simple (with Trainz anyway)...

Thankfully, Thomas is a tank engine, not a human. This means that to make fan creations surrounding the franchise, particularly fan-series, is practically a cakewalk compared to other fandoms.

Thomas fans understand that these eras are just that; eras, and not what the entire franchise is comprised of. They also understand just how frustratingly long said eras actually lasted (and will last) for.

BWBA is even worse; Thomas directly speaks to the viewer to jam the episode plots down your throat like you couldn't figure it out from just....watching the episode. I'm not even going to get started on AEG.
Thomas speaks directly to the audience, as seen in the BWBA era of Thomas & Friends (2018-2021)

They missed the maturity of the first five seasons and the RWS, which didn't treat the child audience like idiots who don't know any better. The stories explained concepts by demonstration, and letting the kids infer what they were, not lecturing them.

Worse still, Thomas fell off a cliff with the advent of MRR, figuratively and literally. Seasons 6 to 16 (11 whole seasons!) were of inferior quality to what came before it, most apparent towards the latter 4 seasons.
Thomas falls off a cliff, literally, in Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000)

From the RWS to AEG, Thomas has been surrounded by plenty of children's media lacking appeal for those older than a certain age. These were, and still are common enough for the general public to assume all kids' media is like that, which is not true.
