Yes. The single most important aspect of beauty: it relieves stress thus improving our lives. Conversely, the absence of beauty is stress inducing which has many significant negative health consequences.

That question is open for debate. Some theorize it evolved when man started to socialize and cultivate food. The ability to recognize patterns is learning. Human beings that most readily recognized repeating patterns survived. Thus the brain was rewarded for learning.

The feeling of energy bringing everyone together is brain wave coherence brought on by experiencing pleasure and beauty. It is quite similar to a meditation session.

The word “inspire” is derived from the root word “respiration”. It literally means “to breath in”. Thus when you are inspired it is taking your breath away.

When I first went into Sainte Chapelle I was so struck by its beauty that tears sprung from my eyes. The chapel and my reaction to it totally took me by surprise. I’m not religious at all - it was a physical and emotional response to sheer beauty.

We have so much to learn from what our ancestors left for us. Such great wisdom and intuition. Sadly architecture for the most part during the past century has deliberately ignored this. There seems to be a movement starting to correct this though.

Yes. A perfect description. Our ancient brain controls and makes our lives possible. The modern brain is a component of that. 11 million bits of information per second enter the ancient brain. 50 bits per second are processed by the modern brain.

Neuroscience bifurcates our brains into two major segments: the ancient brain that we evolved with and the modern brain that developed in the last 100k years. Subliminal processing occurs in the ancient brain. Feelings arise from the modern brain. -architectology

Most definitely. That would be an “acquired” influence. A function of the modern brain which is where thinking and logic arise from. This is opposite the ancient brain where emotions arise from.

Instinctual beauty is composed of patterns that humans are born looking for. It is fundamental to our survival instinct. This is why some buildings and art are called timeless. The patterns never change. , Neuroscience & Architecture
