Start by abolishing the name "Classics" for the study of Greek and Latin. All "Classics" departments should be renamed Ancient Mediterranean Studies to include the diverse communities from Mesopotamia and North Africa to Etruscans and Celts in Europe.

Or keep the name Classics - but include Classical Arabic, Chinese, Sanskrit, etc. There's no reason to keep up the 19th c. racist project of lifting up Greeks & Romans as inherently special by promoting them as Classics, while separating Egyptian & Near Eastern Studies, et al.

And yes, that goes for all middle school, high school, and college programs that have a Latin program. Some teachers do their best to include diverse history and culture in their Latin programs. But systemic changes are required here.

This isn't just about changing the name: it's about changing the mission. But there's an old joke: when I told folks I study "Classics," most had no clue. Sadly, white racists have always and continue to know how Classics has been a source of pseudo-intellectual refuge for them.
