"Forget frontend or backend. The answer is all of it. At the same time. In the same mind." This resonates deeply. Twitter is full of people saying you "can't be full stack" and it always feels like...really? How do I do both...am I a magic unicorn?

Probably the same people that thought it was a good idea to run javascript as a server technology and then move the servers responsibility to the client.

I do agree with most of it, but the main reason for microservice everything isn't the performance of the application and being able to scale up at demand?
-
Adding more network hops increases latency. Scale by launching more rails processes behind a load balancer. If your bottleneck is your database (AWS offers terabytes of RAM via RDS, so...), shard your data by customer. Microservices shard by data model. Don’t do that.

Monzo, a bank in the UK, has more than 1500 microservices if I remember correctly. What do you think about that?
