That's because microservices are supposed to model different areas of a business, not different areas of a homogeneous system. Splitting an e-commerce site into "CartService", "MvcService" etc is insanity.

A cart-service happens to be an excellent example of an area that has solid boundaries around it and which can get rather complex and powerful in a sophisticated system, eg. AmazonDotCom But, yes, don’t overdo modularization into too many independent networked services.

Yes, but only Modular Monolith. As IT industry we have such a big experience in creating monoliths and still most codebases sooner or later become Big Ball of Mud. Modularization, encapsulation, well-defined interfaces, clean code - this is what we need.We need more Craftsmanship
