Copenhagen was considering a number of alternatives to cut down on cars in the inner city. One of the proposals was banning them entirely. Didn’t pass.

I wonder how this approach would work in a city with sprawl and poor public transit. I live outside Charlotte, NC, and it's become a nightmare to get anywhere because of car saturation, but b/c of the sprawl it's already such a nightmare on the ring roads that I avoid them.

It's a huge effort to overhaul my home city of Birmingham (it embraced the car in the 60s/70s!). We have added some dedicated/segregated cycle lanes and this year will charge any high-pollution vehicle entering the city centre. It's a huge task, but we're up for the challenge!
