An underrated feature of trains (and buses) is the way it forces you to interact with the rest of society. You can’t just hide away in your little dome. You feel more connected, and it’s a barometer for the health of society.

With the current design of North American towns and cities, it is just impossible to not own a car. Also extremely cost prohibitive to build transit in such a way that most people don’t need a car.

Maybe modular trains? You can attach / detach, override to drive home, but jumping on the interstate or other highways allows an automated caravan?

@gleemie and this seems pretty relevant to that. innovation isn't always about the 'new' thing, and the work/responsibility for certain things (like improving mass transport) shouldn't be constantly shunted off on entrepreneursHvala.
