While rocketing gas prices hit consumers hard (esp. low income ppl) Shell made a record profit of $40 billion in 2022, over 2x what it raked in the previous year. Chevron too had record profit of $36.5 billion. Where'd the profits go? Yep...shareholders via buybacks & dividends.

Angels & early stage VC's should be flooding into this moment. Early-stage investing is inherently anti-cyclical. Pre-seed, Seed, and A stage investors will reap (potentially mammoth) rewards not in 6-12 months, but in the NEXT economic cycle 5-10 years from now. #startup #VC

Two things to ponder. 1. The world’s wealthiest 1% captured 2/3 of all new worth created since 2020 ($42 trillion); 2x more than the wealth captured by the bottom 99%. 2. Food & energy companies more than DOUBLED their profits in 2022 + paid $257bn to shareholders.

Venture capital tends to outperform after periods of economic uncertainty & top investors prove their worth in a crisis. Note the yellow bars. Top TVPI happens 3-4 years after yield-curve inversion. This is a great time to deploy $ into amazing founders building for tomorrow.

I start every year by choosing my word. One word that encapsulates my theme, goals, hopes & choices for the coming year. I’ve narrowed it down to a few finalists. What’s your word this year?

(4/8) Without hesitation, Chase grabbed his coat and ran outside to see if the dog needed help. As he approached the dog, he could see that it was cold and hungry. Without thinking twice, Chase picked up the dog and carried it inside. 🏠
