Google sure is good at plagiarizing my work. I released @AlgoVPN, an open-source, self-hosted VPN solution, in 2016. I find it hard to believe @Jigsaw was unaware since I’ve met their engineers more than once.https://www.wired.com/story/alphabet-outline-vpn-software …

I’m confused why you care... isn’t AlgoVPN a free solution? They’re validating a market need and not stealing IP or anything. Isn’t the goal for more people to benefit and use the tech?

We tried setting up Algo a few months ago and eventually gave up. Do I understand correctly that it doesn't support Win7 clients? Similarly, the Google thing doesn't seem to support Linux clients, which is equally unacceptable for us. We ended up using OpenVPN instead.

It's the one main weakness that annoys me about Algo as well, but since I no longer have Windows 7 devices that require a VPN I am still happy with it.

Google is very canny at copying other people’s work and using it to make even more money.

Googles’ Business Model is collecting and monetizing user data. A VPN gives them an even larger data collection than they already have. Just because their Algo clone doesn’t collect anything about the user now, doesn’t mean they won’t add that in the future.

Exactly. I wish more people would pay attention to how truly evil Google has become. Gmail, Android ... everything it does is designed to collect data and sell it on.
