There needs to be a way to lockdown phone numbers the same way registry locks work - no excuse for SE of telco employees leading to this

Mobile numbers have never been secure and weren't designed to be protecting identities like this. Shouldn't it be Gmail being raked?

Reality: both telcos and gmail will get more blowback from locking customers out of their accounts than events like these
