It is both easier to intercept traffic and easier to hack your computer when you're using Tor.

everybody agrees with you on sandboxing Firefox. You should checkout the hardened version of Tor browser.

Lack of sandboxing is not even the biggest problem. Everyone using the same target is.

Tor did a great job getting the entire web of sketchy people to use the exact same software.
