Authy is fucking terrible. I'm locked out of yet another account because I swapped a SIM card in my phone.

... and good luck if you have accounts with more than 1 email or phone # (work/personal) that use Authy bc that doesn't fucking work either.

Services like Authy infuriate me because normal users run into problems like these and then NEVER USE 2FA AGAIN. It hurts all of us.

in the US and increasingly in Europe, normal users only have 1 SIM.

True, but I would assume that a huge number of people have more than 1 email account.

I setup backups in Authy. They didn't succeed at recovering the account. 🤷‍♂️

.@dguido 1/ I know you're a pro, so I hate to sound condescending, but never rely on same service for your backup

.@dguido 2/2 My method is Authy as chief 2nd factor, then bkup codes from service I'm logging into.

I don't use Authy for TOTP. There are 2 svcs I use that require Authy, it's unavoidable. The only backup method is their app.

It's painful, but you're much better off using Google Auth and writing down the seed codes on paper when you create the pairing.

it's useful to have a backup factor, like a physical key (yubikey or similar)
